The Mathematics and Computer Science Division (MCS) of Argonne National Laboratory installed a single rack BG/L system (BGL) in January 2005.

Argonne BGL Configuration

The BG/L system is designed to achieve high performance for low cost and with low power consumption. BGL has the following configuration:
  • Compute - 1024 dual PowerPC 440 700MHz 512MB nodes
  • Storage - 14 TB of clusterwide disk (currently using the MCS Parallel Virtual File System (PVFS)) and 3.5TB of home directory filespace.
  • Network - IBM BlueGene Torus, Global Tree and Global Interrupt
See the Argonne BG/L System Description document for complete details of the Argonne BG/L system.

Availability and Usage

BGL is a research machine and is open to MCS developers, ANL scientists, partner DOE labs, BG/L Consortium members, MCS collaborators, universities and many others. If you are interested in an account on BGL, please contact support@bgl.mcs.anl.gov.
