"Blue Gene/L compute chip: Control, test, and bring-up infrastructure"
mentions debugging method like below

- the service node can access to a 16-KB memory in SRAM(L2) on the
compute node using JTAG commands via ethernet. Thus, the service node
can send boot image to the nodes.

- the service node can read and write the DCRs, even when cpu is hung.
(DCR = Device Control Register)


There was no explanation about software to access the nodes in that
document.
