Thanks, Steve. I don't see any problems with that fix in this case, but I
think the idea is that we don't want to change all of our code so that it
can run on BG/L. That is, after all, the point of a having a standard. But
it is a nice fallback option if we need to get some work done in the short
term, which might be the case.

As I said a week or so ago on this issue, when I had a similar (I think
it was rather similar) problem, I was told to use MPI_SSEND which
completely fixed the problem.  Is there something wrong with that fix
here?
